Your needs, this model

What is included with the FXM401-2A saw package?
FLEX lists the FX2271 saw alongside an FX1151 drill driver, FX1351 impact driver and FX5111 work light; the written package includes two 2.5Ah batteries, one 160W fast charger, a FLEX bag and accessories listed by tool, including a 9-inch 6-TPI nail-embedded wood blade and a 6-inch 8/11-TPI thick-metal blade. The combo page gives the saw-only weight as 7.3 lb without battery, while the standalone FX2271 page says 7.4 lb; FLEX does not explain the difference.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the FXM401-2A FX2271 saw use orbital mode on metal?
No. The FX2271 manual permits straight and orbital modes but specifically prohibits orbital action when cutting metal. It also directs the operator to stop the motor before changing the selector and remove the battery before adjustments. A listed thick-metal blade does not override that operating limit.

The exact FXM401-2A page states 7.3 lb for the FX2271 saw without battery. The standalone FX2271 page states 7.4 lb on the same basis, with no manufacturer explanation. Treat 7.3 lb as the combo page’s saw-only listing and keep the discrepancy visible; neither value is the saw with a battery or the four-tool kit carry weight.

The FLEX FXM401-2A is not simply the FX2271 saw sold with a larger battery. Its exact U.S. package combines the reciprocating saw with an FX1151 drill driver, FX1351 impact driver and FX5111 work light, plus two 2.5Ah batteries, a 160W fast charger, a FLEX bag and the accessories listed for each tool. The saw is the full-size FX2271 body: FLEX’s page gives a 1-1/4-inch stroke and 0–3,000 SPM, and the model-matched manual describes a two-handed tool with straight and orbital modes. That makes this package relevant when the other tools are useful, not just because the box contains a saw.
The saw is a full-size two-hand tool
The exact combo page names its saw as FX2271. FLEX’s FX2271 operator manual supplies the saw-specific operating details: a variable-speed trigger, selectable straight/orbital action, a pivoting shoe that slides to three indexed positions, tool-less blade ejection, LED and hook. The manual’s safety material calls for a two-hand grip. This assessment therefore places the FX2271 in the full-size, two-handed format, rather than relying on the “compact” wording or unrelated package artwork.
Orbital action is not an all-material setting. FLEX says it helps faster cutting, but the manual specifically says not to use orbital action for metal. Stop the motor before changing modes, switch the tool off and remove the battery before adjustments, and follow the manual’s instructions for setting the mode. The shoe pivots for work contact and slides between three positions to change effective stroke length; that is not a promise of one universal cut-depth increase. Keep the shoe installed and in firm contact, secure the workpiece, and select a blade with adequate projection through the full stroke.
The manual distinguishes named cutting capacities for wood, aluminum and metal pipe. Those figures should not be collapsed into one material-independent capacity. FLEX’s package page describes the FX2271 as brushless and lists a 1-1/4-inch stroke at 0–3,000 SPM; those are catalog and manual specifications, not measured cutting-rate results.
Four tools and two smaller packs
For the saw buyer, the headline package difference is two 2.5Ah batteries instead of the single 5.0Ah battery listed with the FX2271-1C saw kit. The total nominal capacity is the same when the two 2.5Ah packs are considered together, but FLEX does not state that this yields the same runtime, charge behavior or loaded saw weight as one 5.0Ah battery. The combo includes one 160W charger; its box list does not identify the charger or battery model numbers. The bag and the drill, impact driver and work light also occupy the package whether or not those tools are wanted.
The FXM401 page lists a 9-inch 6-TPI nail-embedded wood demolition blade and a 6-inch 8/11-TPI thick-metal demolition blade for the saw. It prints the metal blade as 155 mm. FLEX’s separate FX2271-1C listing gives a different metric parenthetical for a nominally six-inch blade, so the package-specific wording is retained rather than turning the discrepancy into a claim of a different blade. The manual’s orbital-mode metal restriction remains important even though a metal blade is listed.
There is also a weight-documentation discrepancy. The FXM401 page states that its saw tool weighs 7.3 lb without battery, while the standalone FX2271 product page states 7.4 lb on the same without-battery basis. FLEX does not explain the one-tenth-pound difference. The 7.3-lb number is the combo page’s saw-only field, not the weight of the battery, four-tool kit or complete carry bag; actual saw-with-pack and package weights are not published in the evidence reviewed here.
Who should compare this package
The FXM401-2A is a coherent choice to investigate if a buyer needs a two-handed FLEX 24V reciprocating saw and would also use its drill, impact driver and work light. The two included 2.5Ah packs give a second battery in the box, while the FLEX 24V cross-compatibility claim means existing FLEX 24V equipment is relevant to the purchase decision. Compatibility does not prove that a specific battery is included in this package beyond the two capacities listed, and no runtime estimate follows from capacity alone.
Someone who already owns compatible batteries and chargers may find less value in paying for duplicate power equipment; the FX2271-Z is the separate tool-only configuration, while the FX2271-1C lists a single 5.0Ah pack, charger, bag and blades. A saw-only buyer should also consider whether the extra drill, impact driver and light are worth storing and carrying. I do not infer a price advantage, savings or performance superiority: no price or hands-on test is part of this assessment. FLEX’s exact product page and FX2271 manual are the evidence for the listed attributes.
Checks before buying
Confirm the full FXM401-2A suffix and package contents on the seller’s written listing. FLEX’s page names four tools, two 2.5Ah batteries, a 160W fast charger, FLEX bag and tool-specific accessories, including the two saw blades. Verify whether the seller’s box list matches rather than relying on a photo of a neighboring FX2271 configuration. If weight is a strict limit, ask the seller or FLEX to resolve the 7.3-versus-7.4-lb tool-only figures and do not treat either as loaded weight. Confirm your existing batteries and chargers are FLEX 24V compatible, and choose straight/orbital mode and blade type for the material only as the manual allows. This is a source-based package assessment, not a claim of ownership, physical testing or personal cutting experience.
